일반적인 영어 말하기 능력이 아니라 즉흥적인 순발력 테스트에 가깝다. 5초 안에 의견과 근거를 잡아야되서 평소 모르는 주제가 나오더라도 15초안에 뼈대를 세우는 연습이 필요. 일정한 페이스 유지와 자연스러운 인토네이션을 연습해야한다. 컴퓨터에 말하는게 아니라 토론장에서 연설한다 생각하고 제안이 아닌 주장(assert)와 근거(prove)제시.

independent ex) Should people buy new or used books?
flow : 대부분 책은 안읽고 방치 -> 환경적 낭비, 비용 효율적 -> 중고책이 더 낫다.
answer : It is objectively better to buy used books because most books go unread, and this reduces waste and cost

예시 답변 흐름 (Long vs Short Vacation)

“I definitely prefer long vacations. First, they’re simply more fun. For example, I could spend a whole week in Europe and still not feel rushed. 템플릿을 오히려 버리라는 조언도 있는데 뻣뻣하고 부자연스러워 그런거같다. 대신 논리적인 구조로 전제 -> 근거 -> 결론을 연습하는게 좋다고함

What – How 구조

  • What? → 무엇이 개선/절약/향상되는가?
  • How? → 어떻게 개선/절약/향상되는가? (구체적 사례/예시)

TOEFL 독립형 답변은 두 가지 이유 + 각각 짧은 예시가 안정적이다. 하나는 좀 부족하고 세 개는 시간 초과 확률이 좀 있다.

질문: Some universities require first-year students to live in dormitories on campus. Others allow students to live off campus. Which policy do you think is better for first-year students and why?

답변 예시: “I believe living on campus is better. First, it improves my chances to make friends, because I am surrounded by other students every day. For example, when we study or eat together, I naturally build strong connections. Second, it improves my academic focus, because living close to classrooms saves commuting time. I can spend that time preparing for classes. So overall, living on campus is more beneficial for first-year students.”
